Book Clubs – A Whole World Of Books
Book Clubs – A Whole World Of Books
You get used to reading books while in school, college and even post graduation. Once you are out of school and join the rat race of competition and making a living you tend to forget that you were once a voracious reader and loved books the most. Once you have made some thing out of your life and settled to a comfortable life to read the thought reoccurs. You crave to get hold of a good book to read (or even take to bed with you.) and you realize that you are miles away from your literate friends and do not have access to any library, or a book store or informative publications like New York Times Book Review. You have no way of knowing which book to read and which to get from where.
Probably the best way to find which book to read is to look at book club recommendations. Naturally you would want to know as to which book club meets your tastes so that your search gets narrowed only to those books might interest you.
MAIL-ORDER BOOK CLUB :
Almost all of us who have been voracious book readers joined one mail-order book club or the other when we started reading books seriously. That was of course a long time ago and there is no guarantee that those exist even now or not. The most popular mail-order book clubs now are:
1. Book-of-the-Month Club.
2. Quality Paperback Books
3. The Literary Guild.
Mail-order clubs have an objectionable attribute. They will send you a book automatically according to your profile listed with them or send a notification so that you may order book/s. You either order the book and pay for it or if sent automatically, send it back with in a short period or pay. Moreover the title listings may not be of the current bestsellers but of those that old publications and are left on their shelf too long for their comfort.
T.V. BOOK CLUB :
Charlie Roses author interviews, aired in America over PBS affiliated stations and Oprahs Book Club. Charlie Roses interviewed are a motley of different subjects and a very few cover authors, However the authors he chooses are all modern-day fiction and non fiction writers who provide coherent and logical motivation to have a look at their books. Some of the authors that Charlie Rose has interviewed are Toni Morrison, Tom Clancy, Maureen Dowd, James Risen and Seamus Heany.
Oprah Book Club, on the other hand does not limit itself to only interviews. She picks authors of books she likes and then initiates a discussion on the book which furnishes a beneficial insight into the content of the book. Oprah recommends almost all of Toni Morrisons works-books along with books of the likes of Wally Lambs Shes Come Undone and Kaye Gibsons Ellen Foster
INTERNET BOOK CLUB :
There are a number of book groups and clubs online to suit individual tastes. Depending upon your profile you can choose from them. For teens on the lookout for highly recommended bestsellers, TeenInk.com is fantastic place for books of their interest.
Communities like FocusonFiction.net itemize the best books for Christians and is a perfect place for Christians who are fond of reading fiction.
.
Here is one wishing you a very happy reading for a longtime to come.

Discounted Cash Flow $47.48 Firm valuation is currently a very exciting topic. It is interesting for those economists engaged in either practice or theory, particularly for those in finance. The literature on firm valuation recommends logical, quantitative methods, which deal with establishing today’s value of future free cash flows. In this respect firm valuation is identical with the calculation of the discounted cash flow, DCF. There are, however, different coexistent versions, which seem to compete against each other. Entity approach and equity approach are thus differentiated. Acronyms are often used, such as APV (adjusted present value) or WACC (weighted average cost of capital), whereby these two concepts are classified under entity approach. Why are there several procedures and not just one? Do they all lead to the same result? If not, where do the economic differences lie? If so, for what purpose are different methods needed? And further: do the known procedures suffice? Or are there situations where none of the concepts developed up to now delivers the correct value of the firm? If so, how is the appropriate valuation formula to be found? These questions are not just interesting for theoreticians; even the practitioner who is confronted with the task of marketing his or her results has to deal with it. The authors systematically clarify the way in which these different variations of the DCF concept are related throughout the book ENDORSEMENTS FOR LÖFFLER: DISCOUNTED 0-470-87044-3 "Compared with the huge number of books on pragmatic approaches to discounted cash flow valuation, there are remarkably few that lay out the theoretical underpinnings of this technique. Kruschwitz and Löffler bring together the theory in this area in a consistent and rigorous way that should be useful for all serious students of the topic." –Ian Cooper, London Business School "This treatise on the market valuation of corporate cash flows offers the first reconciliation of conventional cost-of-capital valuation models from the corporate finance literature with state-pricing (or ‘risk-neutral’ pricing) models subsequently developed on the basis of multi-period no-arbitrage theories. Using an entertaining style, Kruschwitz and Löffler develop a precise and theoretically consistent definition of ‘cost of capital’, and provoke readers to drop vague or contradictory alternatives." –Darrell Duffie, Stanford University "Handling firm and personal income taxes properly in valuation involves complex considerations. This book offers a new, precise, clear and concise theoretical path that is pleasant to read. Now it is the practitioners task to translate this approach into real-world applications!" –Wolfgang Wagner, PricewaterhouseCoopers "It is an interesting book, which has some new results and it fills a gap in the literature between the usual undergraduate material and the very abstract PhD mat… |

A Christian’s Guide to Judaism: Stimulus Books $12.95 “Do you have questions about Judaism? Do you wonder why Jews don’t accept Jesus as Messiah? Why Jews are so attached to the State of Israel? Why has there been so much hatred of Jews over the centuries? What you should bring (or more importantly, what not to bring) to the Passover Seder to which you’ve been invited? How to relate to Jews who are close friends or even new family members of yours? If you do, then this is the book for you. Written in a friendly, informal style, “A Christian’s Guide to Judaism is an introduction to Jewish religion, history, culture, and holidays written especially for the curious non-Jew. Its goal is to not only answer the questions that you may have about Judaism but also to make you feel more at home when you are invited to Jewish celebrations such as weddings and bar or bat mitzvahs. This much-needed book provides Christians with a broad overview of the Jewish people and their religion, presents thorough explanations of Jewish laws and traditions, and explains in detail the many similarities-and key differences-between the Christian and Jewish faiths.” |

Books and Readers in the Early Church: A History of Early Christian Texts $20 “This fascinating and lively book provides the first comprehensive discussion of the production, circulation, and use of books in early Christianity. It explores the extent of literacy in early Christian communities; the relation in the early church between oral tradition and written materials; the physical form of early Christian books; how books were produced, transcribed, published, duplicated, and disseminated; how Christian libraries were formed; who read the books, in what circumstances, and to what purposes.>”In this extremely well-written and thoroughly researched work, Gamble asks to what extent the early church used books, how were they produced, and for what audiences? … An enormously instructive and provocative work on an original topic. I recommend it highly to anyone with an interest in Christian history and a taste for future-oriented speculation”. — Commonweal>”His study merits careful reading and continuing use because of its valuable collections, insightful comments, and thoroughness. In essence he has provided a ‘companion to early Christian literature’ which should be required reading”. — Robert M. Grant, Catholic Historical Review” |
